At Top of the Monk our philosophy is simple, centered around presenting you with quality cocktails and Asheville’s premier whiskey collection, served by our knowledgeable and friendly staff in an atmosphere that is both sophisticated, and relaxing. We take pride in serving the finest classic and modern cocktails. Take a sip, sit back, and enjoy views of the mountains from our rooftop patio. Find yourself a comfortable seat at the bar to watch our Mixologists at work, or seek out a quiet corner to simply enjoy every bit of your libation.

In order for you, and all of our valued guests to most thoroughly enjoy your time at Top of the Monk, we have a few in-house policies:

    • No parties of 7 or more people after 7pm on Friday and Saturday.
    • Leave the party accessories at the door – we’d be glad to look after your sashes, feather boas, noisemakers, etc. at the door while you enjoy a relaxed drink upstairs, and you can pick them up on your way out.
  • No hootin n’ hollerin! We like to keep things low key so everyone can enjoy their conversations.

Cocktail List

Corpse Reviver #2
  • According to Harry Craddock's immortal tome, The Savoy Cocktail Book, 1930, this strong stunner is "To be taken before 11 a.m., or whenever steam and energy are needed,"
  • Plymouth Gin, Lillet Blanc, Cointreau, Absinthe, Fresh Lemon. Served Up.
The Zombie
  • In 1934, Don the Beachcomber called his signature drink “a mender of broken dreams.” We think you’ll agree. But proceed with care: Don himself would serve no more than two to a customer, and neither will we.
  • Over Proof Demerara Rum, Appleton Special Rum, Flor de Caña Aged Rum, Absinthe, Fresh Lime, House Spiced Grenadine, Angostura, House Falernum, & "Don's Secret Mix". Served on Crushed Ice.
Boris Karloff
  • Most commonly remembered as Frankenstein's Monster, Boris was a true master of horror. Despite his grinchy nature, this cocktail actually has a gentle sweetness.
  • Straight Gin, St. Germain, Fresh Lime, Egg White, Carbonated Water, Cracked Black Pepper, Lime Zest. Served on Ice.
Smoke Screen
  • A drink to rekindle, or ignite your love of peat whiskey. This botanical cocktail is as strong as you want it, but mellow enough for the most discerning tippler.
  • Scotch, Green Chartreuse, Fresh Mint & Lime, Cane Sugar, Served on Ice.
Raspberry Tea Swizzle
  • In modern terms, swizzle means sweet, awesome, radical or fabulous. It's used to express good fortune that can not be held in, and seems perfectly fitting.
  • Straight Gin or Vodka, Muddled Raspberry, Chamomile Syrup, Ginger, Fresh Orange & Lime, Jasmine & White Peony Tea. Served on Ice.
The Sunburn
  • This little sizzler packs a punch! After a few of these, you will definitely feel like you've been laying by the pool for a couple hours.
  • Tequila, Straight Gin, House Cured All Spice Dram, Cinnamon Turbinado Syrup, Serrano Chili Tincture, Angostura Bitters, Fresh Lime. Served on Ice.
The Black Mariah
  • A much darker kind of lady, this slightly sweet, slightly tart, and very potent libation is anything but scary.
  • Maker's Mark, Framboise, Blackberry Brandy, Fresh Lemo, Lightly Fermented Blackberry & Pomegranate Shrub. Served on Ice.
Fireside
  • This drink maybe served on ice, but there's some flame in the finish. We may not have a fire, but we're pretty lit without one.
  • Old Forester, Fresh Lemon, Clover Honey, Angostura Bitters, Local Cold Pressed Cider, Muddled Candied Ginger. Served on Ice.
Brandied Pumpkin Sour
  • This will prove that brandy can be a gentle spirit, and when delicately layered with Autumn spices, it makes the perfect fall cocktail.
  • Grape Brandy, Fresh Lemon, Pumpkin Reduction & Spiced Syrup, Egg White. Crowned with Madagascar Vanilla & Angostura Bitters, Pie Spiced Rim. Served Up.
Bitter Winter
  • Strong and stirred, this well balanced but serious sipper is a smooth after dinner special or kick off to any chilly evening.
  • Redemption Rye, Campari, Tio Pepe Sherry, Sweet Vermouth, Angostura Bitters. Served Up.
